Live to Work or Work to Live?
It’s an old question but: “Do you live to work or work to live?”
Are you content with your answer?
If your work doesn’t bring you fulfilment, is there anything practical that you, your church, or the members of your group doing this course can do to help?
Thinking about these questions though raises another important question. Is either ‘living to work’ or ‘working to live’ necessarily any better than the alternative? Although feeling fulfilled is an important part of our human flourishing, does that fulfillment have to come from our work? Is it better to live to work’, finding a job where you are so engrossed in your daily activities that the lines between your home and work are blurred; or is it better to ‘work to live’, where you put in your 8 hours and go home and enjoy time with your family, friends, hobbies and other interests including your faith?
