What does work mean to you?
Lent – Week 1 – Calling
It’s good sometimes to reflect on various bits of our life, and what they mean to us. So, what does ‘work’ mean to and for you?
Here’s a range of responses, one or more of which might fit your current work-life pattern – but you might want to add your own……
- It is hard physical effort towards some goal
- Friendship and social contact
- Economic necessity – a means to an end
- Brings out the best in me and gives meaning in my life
- Can be fulfilling and a source of self esteem
- Ways I use my talents and gifts
- A vocation and what my life is all about
- Something I want to retire from, but will then replace with other work
- Curse, or a drudgery – a necessary evil
- A source of pressure and stress
- Creativity and freedom
- The source of our identities – “and what do you do?”
- Serving others and doing something useful
- A career
- A place of community and belonging
- A hobby, pastime or interest
- Something I don’t have and I want
- Something I love to do
- ………………….
